Bargaining between PPS and union leaders continues Sunday

No indication yet of whether classes will take place Monday
Negotiations between Portland Public Schools and the Portland Association of Teachers continued through the weekend, as the possibility of more classes being canceled loomed large.

Union representatives said in a statement Saturday night that the two sides were unable to reach a tentative agreement.

“We are encouraged by the improved dialogue on key issues in negotiations today, but PPS management has a long way to go, to get our students what they need, settle this contract and get educators and students back into the classrooms,” PAT President Angela Bonilla said in the statement.

Neither PAT nor PPS has announced that schools will be closed Monday. An update from both sides is expected by 7 p.m. Sunday evening.
