Independent Media Week 2025

Ashland Oregon’s 20th annual Independent Media Week showcases a coalition of independent media producers, local activists and community groups organized around the theme “A well-informed citizenry is a cornerstone of democracy”

Traditionally running the third week in April, Independent Media Week is a grassroots campaign to inform and empower citizen by showcasing local efforts and to expand and inspire hyper-local media production.

IndyCon is an artists, makers and creators fair planned for April 19th from 10am to 4pm at SOU Rogue River Room. Local artists, authors, creators and media influencers are invited to exhibit their work and network with experts and peers.

Guests will speak on the issues critical to preserving independent media and how we can use the tools and networks to build stronger communities.

Local independent businesses and non-profits are also welcome to table and share information on services and products. There will also be workshops to share issues and explore best practices around media use.

There will also be activities for children, teens and youth alike. Kids can create and build in Lego World and explore the space with and find Easter eggs at hosted Media Scavenger Hunts.

History:

In April 2005, the City of Ashland officially proclaimed its first Independent Media Week.

Every year since, a coalition of local independent media organizations have asked the City of Ashland to proclaim the 3rd week in April, “Independent Media Week” .

Once again, media activists and community volunteers organized the week’s activities, and invited participation and attendance from all interested citizens and organizations.
